Who actually dispenses your prescription?
The brand you order a weight loss medicine from is often not the pharmacy that dispenses it. Knowing who does is the difference between checking the right thing and the wrong one.

The short version
- A brand is often a marketing name. A separate registered pharmacy dispenses the medicine.
- The pharmacy holds the registration, so it is the one to check on the GPhC register.
- Find its name and GPhC number in the footer, the terms, or a “dispensed by” line.
- A brand that hides who dispenses is the warning sign, not one that names a partner pharmacy.
Why a brand is often a shop front
A lot of weight loss services you reach through an advert are a brand sitting on top of other businesses. One company runs the website and the marketing, a prescriber service handles the consultation, and a registered pharmacy dispenses the medicine. These can be three different names. The arrangement is legal, and it is how much of the online market works, but it means the brand on the website is not the thing that holds the registration.
How to find the pharmacy behind a brand
A registered pharmacy has to identify itself. Look in these places:
- The website footer, for a pharmacy name and a GPhC registration number.
- The terms and conditions, and the privacy policy, where the dispensing pharmacy is often named as the data controller.
- A “dispensed by” line at the checkout or on the confirmation.
- The GPhC internet pharmacy logo, which should link to the pharmacy’s entry on the register.
Then check that pharmacy on the GPhC register. If the brand names no registered pharmacy anywhere, do not buy.
Why it matters
The pharmacy is who is accountable for your medicine. It is the entity on the register, the one an inspection looks at, and the one to raise a problem with. A brand can switch which pharmacy dispenses for it, so the name on the marketing tells you little on its own. Checking the pharmacy, and the prescriber service behind the consultation, tells you who is really handling your care.
We map it for you
Where a brand uses a partner pharmacy, our provider records show a “dispensed by” line and link the pharmacy’s entry on the register, so you can see the real chain in one place. Check a provider, or browse registered clinics and online pharmacies. See also how to check a provider and how we verify.
Common questions
- Why does the brand I ordered from not match the pharmacy on the parcel?
- Many weight loss brands are a marketing name. The medicine is dispensed by a separate registered pharmacy, under an arrangement between the two. That is legal and common. The pharmacy is the one that holds the registration, so it is the one to check.
- Where do I find the pharmacy behind a brand?
- Look in the website footer, the terms and conditions, and the privacy policy. A registered pharmacy has to show its name and GPhC registration number, and will often appear as the data controller or as “dispensed by”. If you cannot find a named, registered pharmacy anywhere, treat that as a reason not to buy.
- Is a white label arrangement a bad sign?
- Not in itself. What matters is that a registered pharmacy and a prescriber stand behind the brand, and that you can see who they are. The problem is a brand that hides who dispenses, not one that uses a partner pharmacy.
